The award-winning cartoonist has illustrated books for Macmillan, Harcourt Brace, Candlewick Press, Macgraw-Hill, Random House, Scholastic, Golden Books, Contemporary Books, Irena Chalmers Publishing, Workman and Andrews McMeel, but is perhaps best known for Head Lice.*
Rick’s award-winning cartoon and humorous illustration work has appeared in magazines, newspaper syndication, children’s and humor books, advertising, licensed products and on network television.
For 18 years his nationally syndicated newspaper comic strip, Soup to Nutz, appeared in over 150 newspapers. He has been nominated for his illustration work by the National Cartoonists Society twelve times and has been awarded the Reuben Division Award for Best Artist on three occasions.
He has illustrated childrens books for Macmillan, Harcourt Brace, Candlewick Press, Macgraw-Hill, Random House, Scholastic, Golden Books, Contemporary Books, Irena Chalmers Publishing, Workman and Andrews Mcmeel.
A former NCS President and member of the Board of Directors of the National Cartoonists Society, he currently sits on the board of their charitable foundation, where he oversees the Cartooning For Kids program.
Rick is the NCSFest Associate Director overseeing the artists and writers program at the library.
*Why Head Lice? It was the title of a book he illustrated. Honest.
